🟫✂️✅ How to Split and Merge Polygons in QGIS
🔹 PART 1: Split a Polygon
✅ Step 1: Toggle Editing

Right-click on your polygon layer → Toggle Editing

Or click the ✏️ Pencil icon
✅ Step 2: Use the Split Features Tool

Go to:
Edit
→Split Features
or click the ✂️ Split Features Tool on the toolbar. -
Click inside the polygon to start drawing a cut line.

Keep clicking to draw vertices.

Right-click to finish the split.

The polygon will now be split into two separate features.
✅ Step 3: Save Edits

Click 💾 Save Layer Edits

Click ✏️ Toggle Editing to stop editing.
🔹 PART 2: Merge (Join) Polygons
✅ Step 1: Toggle Editing

Right-click the polygon layer → Toggle Editing
✅ Step 2: Select the Polygons to Merge

Use the Select Features by Area or Single Click tool.

Hold Shift and click to select multiple adjacent polygons.
✅ Step 3: Merge Selected Features

Go to:
Edit
→Merge Selected Features
or right-click on selected area → choose Merge Features -
A window pops up to decide how attribute values will be handled.

Choose what values to keep (e.g., from one polygon or combine)

Click OK to complete the merge.
✅ Step 4: Save and Exit

Click 💾 Save Layer Edits

Click ✏️ Toggle Editing to stop.
🔍 Notes:

🔪 Split is helpful when dividing land parcels, zones, etc.

🧩 Merge is used to combine smaller areas into one (e.g., multiple blocks into a neighborhood).
